Outnabout - Redesiging The Campus Event Experience
An app dedicated to redefining event discovery and management with personalized recommendations and real-time engagement for university students.
Out N About started as a solid platform for helping university students discover campus events and giving organizers the tools to manage them. But something was missing. Students were having trouble finding events that mattered to them, and organizers weren’t getting the features they needed to engage attendees or track their events' performance.
My task was to transform this promising product into something more intuitive, fun, and effective.
01
The Challenge
Even though Out N About had the basics, users encountered a few key issues. Students found it hard to filter through event listings, often overwhelmed by clutter and irrelevant events. Meanwhile, organizers were stuck with essential management tools that didn’t give them enough control or insight into ticket sales and audience engagement.
The platform needed to be more personalized, user-friendly, and ultimately more valuable to students and organizers.
03
Solution
To solve these issues, we focused on making the experience more intuitive and enjoyable for both groups.
For students, we introduced a swipe-based event discovery system (imagine Tinder, but for campus events). This made it quicker and more fun to browse through events. We also improved the filtering system so they could find precisely what they were looking for without feeling overwhelmed.
We redesigned the dashboard for organizers to give them real-time insights into ticket sales and attendee engagement. Now, they can manage everything from creating events to tracking their success in one place.
The overall look and feel of the app were also refreshed, giving it a cleaner, more modern design that made navigation smoother and more accessible.

04
The Process
We started with user research, diving deep into what students and organizers were struggling with. Students like Emily, a second-year psychology major, told us they wanted to find events faster and with less effort. Organizers like Jake from the campus music society needed more robust tools to track their events' performance.
With this feedback in mind, we completely reworked the user flows. The swipe feature for students made event discovery exciting and fast. The new dashboard gave organizers a clear view of real-time ticket sales and audience engagement, helping them make better decisions.
We tested interactive prototypes with users, making adjustments based on their feedback to ensure the new design was hitting the mark. It was about refining the experience and ensuring every interaction felt intuitive.
05
Results
The redesign brought immediate improvements. Students were engaging with the app more, with a 30% increase in event attendance, thanks to the new discovery features. Organizers, on the other hand, were thrilled with the new dashboard, finding it much easier to manage their events and track success in real time.
The overall user feedback was extremely positive—students loved the swipe feature, and organizers appreciated the new tools that made their jobs easier and more effective.
06
Conclusion
The Out N About redesign made a real difference in how students and organizers interact with the platform. By focusing on making the app simpler, more personalized, and visually appealing, we turned it into a tool that users genuinely enjoy.
Listening to their feedback and continuously refining the design allowed us to deliver a product that exceeded expectations and brought real value to campus life.
